Intrastat declarations in Bulgaria
Companies that move goods between Bulgaria and other EU countries above the annual thresholds must report that trade every month. We make sure your Intrastat declarations are accurate and match your VAT records.
Who it’s for
- Manufacturers and distributors trading goods within the EU
- Foreign companies with a Bulgarian VAT number and stock movements
- Companies that have just crossed an Intrastat threshold
Intrastat is the EU system for collecting statistics on the trade in goods between member states. In Bulgaria, VAT-registered businesses whose arrivals or dispatches exceed the thresholds set each year by the National Statistical Institute must file monthly Intrastat declarations, separately for each flow.
The data is also used to check VAT returns, so differences between your Intrastat and VIES declarations can lead to questions from the authorities. We prepare the declarations from your invoices and transport documents, apply the right commodity codes and transaction types, and reconcile them with your VAT filings.

Common questions
How are the Intrastat thresholds set?
The thresholds are set each year by order of the President of the National Statistical Institute, published at the end of October and valid for the following year. There are separate thresholds for arrivals and dispatches.
Is Intrastat the same as VIES?
No. VIES declarations are a VAT obligation for supplies to businesses in other EU countries; Intrastat is a statistical declaration of physical movements of goods. Many companies must file both, and the figures should be consistent.
